Gerber first produced the BMF in 1986 and from 1986 – 1988 the BMF blades were 8″ long, In the later part of 1989 the blade length was increased to 9″. This is an early knife serial # 010947 as the blade length measures 8″ long. The knife is all complete with proper MINT sheath with Bianchi clips, old style compass which is correct for this time period of production and properly marked box with matching serial number. The knife has never been carried, sharpened and remains in unused condition. The old issue keeping it from being mint is some slight discoloration on one side near the top of the blade. We included a picture of the spot so you can make your own judgment as to the severity. The spot is in the finish not the steel itself. Gerber provided a coating on these blades which I have noticed can be harder to maintain than carbon or stainless steel. Gerber ceased production of these knives in the mid 1990’s. The remaining parts of the knife remain MINT and unused. Very early BMF in really near MINT condition.
